Matthias Heil from Heidelberg, Germany
I am a student of English and Political Sciences and Economics at Heidelberg University, planning to become a teacher. I am currently in Reykjavik and at Borgarholtsskóli as a intern in a program called “Schulwärts”, which is initiated and organized by the Goethe-Institut with the goal of fostering interest in the German language and in German culture abroad. To achieve that I am assisting in the German lessons, planning and delivering lessons in a team with the other intern Laura and offering the students a chance to talk to a “real German”. So far this has been a great experience, which has allowed me to improve my teaching skills, learn about the Icelandic school system and to meet interesting and fun people. Sigurborg Jónsdóttir and Bernd Hammerschmidt german teachers in Borgarholtsskóla have been the tutors.
